Who can stay at the Hospice Room? ~ Patients who are/or are eligible to be clients of Brattleboro Area Hospice ~ Patients meeting the admission criteria of Eden Park. ~ Patients who are 18 years of age or older. ~ The Room is available to all people who reside in Windham County Vermont and bordering New Hampshire towns; in addition, terminally ill persons coming to be with family who reside in this geographic area are also eligible for admission. ~Persons of any gender, sexual orientation, marital status, race or creed are equally eligible. How long can a patient stay in the Room? ~End of life admission is offered to provide a homelike atmosphere for the final days of the patient’s life. It is limited to a maximum of 30 days. If the time of one month is exceeded, Brattleboro Area Hospice and Eden Park will determine whether the patient should remain in the Hospice Room, be moved to another available room in Eden Park, or transferred to home or another facility. ~ Respite admission is offered to provide a break for the patient’s primary caregiver, and may be up to a 7-day stay. ~ Priority is on a first-come first-served basis. End of life admission is a priority over respite admission; respite admission is given as it is available. A waiting list will be maintained in chronological order of referral. How much does the Room cost? ~ In most cases, Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance covers the cost of room use. ~ If there is a portion of the total room cost that is not covered by insurance, a Hospice Room Fund has been established to help cover this difference. Please talk to Eden Park Admissions or the Brattleboro Area Hospice Care Coordinator if you have any concerns about charges not covered by insurance. Do I still see my own doctor when I come to stay at Eden Park? Most
area Doctors have privileges at Eden Park. If a patient has no primary
doctor, the Medical Director of Eden Park will assume responsibility
for the patient’s case. For specific Doctors, check with Eden
Park’s Admissions to determine if your doctor has privileges.
No, all medications, including over-the-counter, will be supplied by the Eden Park pharmacy. Please bring a list of your medication needs with you when you are admitted. What should I bring? Pack as you would for a stay at a friend’s house: comfortable clothes, toiletries and whatever else will make your stay more comfortable. Please also bring any daily living aids you may be using, such as a wheelchair or cane. Feel free to speak with Eden Park or the Hospice Care Coordinator about any items you are unsure of or if your family will be staying in the room with you. Can people visit me 24 hours? Yes. Partners, friends or family are welcome to spend the night. The room is equipped with a trundle bed that comfortably sleeps two adults, and there is a large couch that can serve as a make-do bed if necessary for a third person. Is the room private? Yes, the room is designated for one patient, and provides a comfortable living room/kitchenette space as well as the patient’s furniture. Can I decorate the room? Yes, feel free to bring along family photos, comforters, and music, whatever will make the difference for your comfort (music and video players are supplied in the room). Check with Eden Park if you have any questions about what to bring from home. Does the room have a private telephone? Yes, however only local calls are covered. A credit or phone card is necessary to make long distance calls. Do I have to pay for the TV? No, Eden Park has donated the cost of the cable television during your stay. Can special needs diets be arranged? Yes, and the room is furnished with a microwave, toaster oven and small refrigerator for your use. Please note that no other appliances, such as a hot plate, are allowed due to government regulations. Can pets visit? Yes; all dogs must be on leashes, and all pets must be attended at all times. Are there outside smoking areas for me and/or my family? Yes. Are laundry services available? Yes, they are available for all patients, however they are not available for visiting families. There are several laundromats nearby. |
